Falcon - Year 6

Hello! I am Mr Glancy and I teach Falcon class. I enjoy teaching all the subjects but some of my favourites are reading, writing and science. I love sharing with my class my joy of reading and I share all my favourite stories with them. I am very proud to be part of the teaching profession and a member of St John’s school.

At school I lead Reading which I am very passionate about.  I am also lead of Partnerships which means I have an enjoyable role inviting guests into the school to give special lessons or organise events such as trips to the Kings School.

In my spare time I love to read, listen to music, go for days out with my wife and my two children and find nice places out to eat!

Our weekly timetable:

Our learning this term

English:

In term 1 we will be reading ‘Floodland’ by Marcus Sedgewick. The children are enjoying reading this book and have been producing some excellent writing! This term we will continue to focus on non-formal writing styles such as description, narrative and informal letters. Through this, we will be revisiting sentence structures, fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, as well as high-level punctuation.

Maths

This term we will be completing work on Place value and will begin working on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As always, we will be providing children with daily opportunities to revisit previous learning and aim to make this as fun as possible.

History:

In History this term, we will be studying  Education Through Time. We will revisit different periods in history and learn about what education was like in that time period. We will be finding out what subjects they learned, who education was for and what similarities and differences there were with education today. We are looking forward to an inspiring and educational journey into the past!

RE:

In RE this term, our topic is Christianity and the Big Question is ''Creation and Science: Conflicting or Complementary?' We will be exploring the Christian understanding of the Creation and comparing this to current scientific thinking.

Science:

This term we are learning more about animals and living things. They will be learning about the characteristics of living things, grouping living things and classification. They will also find out about harmful and helpful micro-organisms and conduct an experiment about bread and the conditions that affect mould growth.
