Robin - Reception

Hi, I'm Miss Albani and I teach in Robin Class.

I love teaching in the Early Years Foundation Stage and supporting children throughout their first year in education.

My favourite subject is definitely Maths and I absolutely love taking all types of learning outdoors.

I am also an avid reader. I do value greatly our story times in class and I like supporting children in immersing themselves into a new book. I enjoy some role play, making props, or simply creating a cosy and inviting reading nook where children can enjoy listening to a story.

Additional adults working in Robins class: Mr Graves and Miss Stiles

Our learning this term: Our topic this term is ‘Come Outside’ where we will be learning about minibeasts, growing vegetables, healthy eating, life cycles and different places outside.

We will also be learning about relationships with family and friends, as well as being the best friend we can be.

Literacy

Linking to our 'Come Outside' topic, our focus books this term are: Superworm, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Oliver's Vegetables, Life Cycles and We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

In Literacy, we will be:

  • anticipating and predicting key events in stories

  • showing understanding of new vocabulary when talking about stories, non-fiction, rhymes, poems and in role play

  • saying a sound for each letter in the alphabet

  • reading words consistent with phonic knowledge by sounding them out and blending

  • writing recognisable letters, most of which are correctly formed

  • begin writing some capital letters

  • using a full stop at the end of a sentence

  • writing the same number of words on paper as in spoken sentence or phrase

  • spelling words by identifying sounds in them and representing these with a letter or letters

Learning at home for Robin Class:

Reading

We will be sending home three reading items for you to look at with your child:

1. Story books from our library that you can enjoy reading together with your child

The Gruffalo (Big Book) Book

2. Ditty sheets OR a Read Write Inc book for your child to practise reading sounds they are familiar with, simple words/ phrases and 'red words'

3. Pink banded book to practise reading new words and other reading skills (e.g. comprehension, fluency, etc).

Please try to spend some time each day listening to your child read as it really does have a positive impact on their progress.  Remember to sign your child’s reading record when they have read to you.

Be ready for learning! In Robin Class your child will need to have these items in school:

Everything you send to school MUST be labelled clearly with your child’s name. Lost property will be available for parents to access daily on the school premises should anything go missing.

  • Book bag (provided by school)

  • Water bottle (no squash or juice)

  • Lunch box (if not having a school meal)

  • Wellington boots (to leave in school)

  • Coat (weather appropriate)

  • Bag of spare clothes to leave on your child's peg

Please don’t bring other items or toys into school, as we do not have space to store these, and it can cause upset if things are lost or damaged.

Outdoor learning:

Outdoor learning plays a pivotal part in our children's development. Therefore, much of our learning in EYFS, takes place outside, and we aim to enjoy our outdoor learning area in any weather! So please, provide a pair of wellington boots which you are happy to leave in school for outdoor play.
