Welcome to our Nursery

"Children make an excellent start in the Nursery and Reception Years. They settle into school quickly and make outstanding progress due to the high expectations of their behaviour and achievement." Ofsted 2018

At Caterpillars Nursery the children are offered a wide range of exciting learning opportunities based upon their interests and ideas. The children are able to learn both indoors and outside as they have free flow between the two areas. We also love to explore the local area and regularly go to feed the ducks and visit our school wildlife area. Each week we enjoy Forest School activities with our trained Forest School lead which allow us to learn in a natural environment and love going on wellington walks to explore the school field and nature area. We link these experiences to our current interest and learning, for example, following maps and digging for treasure as Pirates or building houses of different materials like the Three Little Pigs. These are often finished with songs around a camp fire and a delicious cup of hot chocolate!

We believe in building strong links with our parents/carers as recognised by Ofsted; "There is a strong emphasis on providing care and nurture as well as challenge and ambition. Staff quickly establish consistent routines which enhance all aspects of the children’s experiences at school."

Your child, when gaining a place with us, will be assigned their own key worker who will come to visit you on a home visit to find out all about them and share any information you will need to start your journey in Caterpillars Nursery. You will then be offered a settle session and can begin into your chosen hours at a pace that suits your child. "Key workers in the Nursery quickly develop warm and caring relationships with the children. Almost all of the children separate easily from their parents, showing confidence in the adults around them. They seek out adults for reassurance when needed, and staff respond quickly to any signs of distress." Ofsted 2018

Our learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage is based upon 7 Areas of Learning & Development:
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Physical Development
• Communication and Language
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

Underpinning learning and development across all these areas are the Characteristics of Effective Learning (how children learn) which include playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically. To learn more, please click here.

You will be able to see all of the fun your child will be having when in our care through an app you can download on your tablet or phoned called Tapestry. This allows you to see videos and photos of their adventures and keep you up to date with how they are progressing. In addition to this, your child’s key worker will complete termly, ‘My Unique Stories’ to share your child’s development with you.

Making sure your child is school ready is highly important to us and we make sure that we offer your child a transition that makes their journey to school as smooth as possible. "Children who had recently progressed from Nursery to Reception were particularly composed and focused on their activities. Parents value how well their children are supported during their introduction to the school." Ofsted 2018

We offer phonics support to introduce your child to their letters and sounds. To find out more about the scheme we use please click here
