We started this week with a very exciting day as we welcomed Kevin into school on Monday to lead drumming workshops for all the children and the staff!
He spent time with each class teaching children how to correctly get notes out of the drum and showing them how to play patterns and rhythms on them.
He also brought along his guitar and children in Key Stage 1 enjoyed some time playing their drums (and dancing) along to African songs!
The children (and staff) really enjoyed themselves; with Hedgehog Class being fascinated about the way that the drums could be used to communicate with people and Chloe reporting that the music made her want to dance!
Children in Giraffe Class said that they thought the workshop was amazing! They reported that playing the drums together made them feel happy and they liked learning about how different sections of the drum produced different sounds!
The really exciting news is that St John’s has also received funding to buy our own drums and we are now the proud owners of 17 djembes!
This means that we will be able to incorporate drumming into our regular music lessons.
Great news for everyone!
