We have been very concerned this week to receive reports about incidents on St John’s Place and Kings Mews during school drop off and collection times. This has been brought to our attention by several residents.
We have been informed that children have been fighting in doorways, climbing and sitting on neighbours walls and causing a general disturbance.
We understand that children love to play with their friends and we encourage this. However, the road is not a suitable location for playing.
We have also received some reports regarding parents sitting on neighbours doorsteps whilst waiting for their children and cars being driven down the narrow road to drop off and pick up children. This is not a vehicle access for the school and parents should not be using this road to access St John’s.
The road has double yellow lines and must be kept clear at all times in order to allow access for our neighbours and for any emergency services that may be required. We are also mindful that vehicles driving down this road could cause an accident or injury to our families.
Any families bringing children to school by car should use the St Radigund’s car park or the car park at Sainsbury’s.
School gates open at 8.30am and close at 8.45am. Please may we ask that parents get to school during this 15 minute period and drop children off promptly.
We will be speaking to children in school about how we are part of this local community and the behaviour expected of St John’s pupils at all times. We would appreciate it if parents could take some time to reinforce this message.
We are very fortunate to have a school in such a central location and it is important to us that we maintain a good relationship with our neighbours and the wider community.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
