Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage.
At St John’s we have two reception classes, Butterfly Class and Honeybee Class. In reception the children continue to learn through play both indoors and outdoors. We are very busy learning lots of new skills including phonics and handwriting. We enjoy daily phonics sessions and activities developing writing skills in a pre-cursive script. We have our own individual Learning Journeys which we love to share with each other and our families. These have lots of photographs in them which show you all the exciting things we have been doing.
Our learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage is based upon 7 Areas of Learning & Development:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Underpinning learning and development across all these areas are the Characteristics of Effective Learning (how children learn) which include playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage we have an open door policy so please speak to a member of staff in the morning or after school if there is anything you wish to discuss. For more information on the Early Years Foundation Stage please click here.
