One of the major disruptions caused by the snowy weather was the cancellation of our planned Book Week activities.
This was obviously a great disappointment to the children, and the staff who had spent many hours planning all the events.
We still plan to run as many of the activities as possible and have managed to rearrange all three author visits for next week. Anne Booth will be visiting year 3 and 4 on Tuesday, Peter Bunzl will be with year 5 and 6 on Wednesday and Charlotte Firmin will be working with Reception, year 1 and year 2 on Thursday. The book sales and signing events will also still happen on the days of the author visits.
Other events; including the parents workshops and library open evenings will be rescheduled for later in the year and we will keep you informed about these.
We managed to hold our book fair and dress up day event yesterday and enjoyed seeing some amazing costumes, from both staff and pupils. It was very difficult to choose the winners of the prizes for best homemade outfits, but we decided that the two costumes showing the most hard work and imagination belonged to Cody in Panda Class (dressed as Stick Man) and Kyle from Meerkats (as Malkin from Cogheart by Peter Bunzl). Both of these children were awarded with their prizes in our Celebration Assembly today, along with twenty other children who were awarded ‘runner up’ prizes for their imaginative, homemade outfits.
The children are also bringing home their free World Book Day £1 vouchers today. These can be used to purchase one of the special £1 World Book Day books or as part payment for a book of greater value. We hope all children will get the chance to visit a bookshop and use these before the expiry date of 31st March (extended due to the bad weather).
We look forward to our author visits (and book signing events) next week.
