Here at St John’s we are proud to welcome families from all over the world bringing a wealth of different cultures and backgrounds, and we greatly value the rich diversity of our school community.

During their time at school our pupils with EAL (English as an additional language) are assessed and monitored for their progress in the curriculum and their acquisition of English, and support is put in place where necessary.

Mrs Buckett works with pupils with EAL who require support, and she does this by either working with them in small groups in our designated EAL room, or working alongside them in their class. The focus of these groups is to help children learn English quicker so that they can access the school curriculum as soon as possible.

We use different strategies to help with learning English, and these include: games, speaking and listening activities, drama, music, singing and craft. Visits to the local community are also included so that children can practise their newly acquired language.
